Devotional - 05th Apr 2021

 'For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God' (Psalm 18:21).

God is gracious, merciful and forgiving. Even though man had sinned, God did not turn his back on his children - He had not forsaken them. He was not taken by surprise  and didn't know what to do. He already had the antidote, which was the 'plan of salvation' to deal with the sin problem. He immediately addressed the problem by sending his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die for all of humanity so our relationship with him could be restored and we would have eternity with him. All we needed do was to accept by faith that Jesus was His Son and through grace was able to save us. We were to keep God's commandments and do His will, all of which testify of Jesus. When we love and honour God, we will obey His commands. We will seek to keep the ways of the Lord and not wickedly departed from Him. Christ was humble even unto death and we must be humble in our obedience to God. We are told by Jesus, in Luke 14:11 that, "Everyone who exalts himself will humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." God is our Father and we must all seek to have a close relationship with him. David had a close relationship with God. He loved and trusted Him and could recall all the times in his life that God had delivered and given him victory over his enemies. Everything he had accomplished, he credited all to God; all his victory came from Him because he was obedient  and not turn away from God. As believers, we are to walk in the ways of God and take delight in doing so, knowing if we slip and fall in them we have an Advocate in Christ Jesus. Let us not forsake God and His house of worship, or sin wilfully and presumptuously; or knowingly broken our covenant relationship with God. All of which would be classified as departing wickedly from God.

 'Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in the present world;' (Titus 2:12). The grace of God brings salvation to all men, seeking a change in our conduct and attitude towards God and one another. It advocates a turning away from sin, and helps the believer in Christ to reject sinful desires and refrain from ungodly living. The grace of God teaches us to avoid behaviours that are sinful and will not enhance our lives; but it is to move us towards right behaviour and right thinking. Paul was instructing Titus to teach   boldly and with authority the conduct and behaviour God expects from His people. To encourage right thinking and behaviour by them living soberly, upright and godly lives. We are also encouraged as Believers in Christ to do the same. Devotional - 05th Oct 2020

 'For his merciful kindness is great towards us: and the truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise the Lord' (Psalm 117:2). The most important thing in life is having a relationship with God. It is through this relationship that we get to know our Maker and experience His love and His truth. When we recognised what God has truly done for us; of his great love and his faithfulness towards us; it should lead us to give Him praise and extol His holy name. God is kind to all his creatures and merciful to us as sinners, therefore, we know his merciful kindness is great towards us. In Christ, God has shown his mercy mixed with kindness, in giving up his Son to save us from our sins. For even though our sins be great, God's mercy is even greater than the sin.
