Devotional - 12th Aug 2021

 'For thus is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another'
(1John 3:11).

The message we heard from the beginning is love - the love of Jesus. Jesus demonstration his love on the cross for all humanity. In Matthew 13:34-35 Jesus said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one another.' As believers we are expected to act on love, not just feel it, and be selfless as Christ was.  We need to understand that love is foundational to the gospel, its about sharing the love of Christ with others. In order to share the message of love with others we need to be connected to Christ, who is love. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us, not tearing down others, but trust in God's work build and lift others up, as we act love out of our faith. Let us not be jealous and envious of each other, but show the love of God  through Christ Jesus. We must try to emulate God and be like Him, which means loving others. God is love and His standard and His principles have not change. He is the same God yesterday, today and  forever more. Remember it is God who showed us His love, by sending His Son to die for us. Jesus showed us his love by giving His life for us. We must love Him and others is the message.

 'Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in the present world;' (Titus 2:12). The grace of God brings salvation to all men, seeking a change in our conduct and attitude towards God and one another. It advocates a turning away from sin, and helps the believer in Christ to reject sinful desires and refrain from ungodly living. The grace of God teaches us to avoid behaviours that are sinful and will not enhance our lives; but it is to move us towards right behaviour and right thinking. Paul was instructing Titus to teach   boldly and with authority the conduct and behaviour God expects from His people.  'For his merciful kindness is great towards us: and the truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise the Lord' (Psalm 117:2). The most important thing in life is having a relationship with God. It is through this relationship that we get to know our Maker and experience His love and His truth. When we recognised what God has truly done for us; of his great love and his faithfulness towards us; it should lead us to give Him praise and extol His holy name.
