'Keep my commandments, and live; and my laws as the apple of thine eye' (Proverbs 7:2).

The Commandments of God will not save us, but it is important for our salvation. The Word of God said, "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might"
(Deuteronomy 6:5). When we love God we are desirous of keeping His commandments. We therefore, should keep them with watchfulness and care because they will give us life. We should seek to protect God's Word in our heart and mind defensively. We should seek to protect the laws of God as we would protect our eyes from sustaining injury, because we know the importance of the eye to our body. In the same way the commandments and laws of God are important and are worth protecting. The text is not  just telling us to keep God's commandments and live, but to let us know the depth of love and care with which we ought to hold His Word - as the "apple of thine eye."  Solomon instructed his son to obey the commandments of God that he may live and to guard the teaching of His laws as the apple of his eye. He knew the pupil which is in the centre of the eye, how highly sensitive and extremely valuable it was. It is said, the eyelid closes very quickly to protect  the pupil when any threatening object approaches the eye. This imagery shows how essential it is to guard our lives by obeying God's Word. The importance of keeping God's commandments is paramount. This command is given in the Old Testament and stretches to the New Testament of what God requires of us to do.  John 12:50 says, "And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me." Christ himself obeyed God's command when He was on earth and is saying to us, the commandments of God leads to eternal life and we should not disregard it. Let us purpose in our hearts to keep hold of the commandments and laws of God guarding them with our hearts and protecting them, as we would protect our eye from injury that we may live eternally.

Have a wonderful day 🌹🌹

Devotional 'The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed' (Psalm 28:8). The Lord our God is the glory of our strength, and in His name we shall rejoice all the day. The Lord is our strength, and the saving strength of His anointed. It is through Christ our anointed that all our blessings come to us. Here we see David, who is a type of our Lord Jesus, praising God. What about you? Christ had done much for us and has achieved full salvation for us, therefore, praise Him! We, like Israel are encouraged that the Lord is our Strength and salvation. When we seek to be in a  relationship with God, He will protect us from our enemies and save us from the crutches of Satan. Just as how Satan attempts to destroy Christ many times, whilst he was on earth, God  saved him and will do the same for us. Christ died to save us all, but it is those who trust Him and have a saving relationship with him that will spend eternity with. He is our High Priest, and J...

'I protest by your rejoicing  which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily' (1 Corinthians 15:31). Christ our Lord came and died for each and everyone to save us from the bondage of sin. He lived on this earth, ministered to the needs of all who He encountered; He was crucified, and resurrected and is now interceding for us, as our High Priest in Heaven. What if there was no resurrection? What would be the implications for God's people? The preaching of the gospel would be a lie, our faith would be worthless and we would all have remained in our sin. Paul is saying, there would be no cause to his dying daily, or for any one who believed and accept Jesus as their personal Saviour to die daily. Paul was expecting death at any time for Christ's sake. He was constantly in peril of his life, he encountered extreme sufferings and was beset with death. He was willing to die at anytime and in any way for Christ's sake. He did not count his life dear unto himself, but...

'Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord' (Hebrews 12:14).  God is a God of peace and of such wants His Children to seek peace between themselves and others. We are also encouraged to pursue a life of holiness, which can only happen through having a relationship with God and being empowered by the influence of the Holy Spirit. As we turn the eyes of our heart upon Jesus, fixing the thoughts of our minds on Him, that His peace, like a river flows into our heart, and His holiness becomes a reality in our life as we consecrate it to Him. We are called to be holy in our thoughts, in words and our deeds; but cannot achieve it by our own efforts.  W e must be consecrated in body, soul, and mind, but not of our own strength. It is only through the empowering of the Holy Spirit that we can pursue holiness and be at peace with each other. Without the Holy Spirit leading us to live a life of ho...
