'And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah'
(Exodus 15:23).
The Isralites were on a high after the Red Sea experience and their deliverance from slavery in Egypt and Pharaoh's army. The Lord led them this way become He wanted them to realise that He was their God, their Deliverer, and their Protector. The people murmured against Moses and God, but the Lord showed them that He was still willing to guide and protect them and be their Healer, if they would look to Him. When they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters because they were bitter, so they murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink"
(verse 24)? Sometimes things happened to us in life, and we become very bitter and callous. It may be family issues; a friendship gone sour; conflicts; marriage broken down; sickness or even the death of a love one. But we need to guard against bitterness creeping in our hearts. We have to realise that it is only God who can take the bitterness of life's issues, and make them sweet again. Just as He did in Marah for the Isralites. The Lord showed Moses a tree, which when he cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There the Lord made for them a statue and an ordinance, and there he proved them
(Vs 25). All we have to do is let go and allow Christ to make our issues of life sweet. Turn over everything that may cause your heart to be bitter, to God and he will take the bitter experiences of your life and make them sweet. The tree didn't make the waters sweet at Marah, it was the Lord. The tree here, represents the Cross of Jesus Christ, which transform everything bitter in our lives and make them sweet. Let us learn to diligently listen to the voice of God; to stop the murmuring and complaining, and obey God and do His will. God wants to cure the evils of our heart, won't you allow Him to do so today?
Have a wonderful day
'But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you' (Matthew 6:33). The Lord is our Provider and knows all that we are in need of before we even ask. We do not need to worry or fret ourselves about what we shall eat or drink. Our Father in heaven will take care of these things we need. We are told by Jesus, 'To seek first the kingdom of God.' What does that mean? It means we should lean on, and trust in the grace of Jesus Christ. We should repent of our sins and have a desire to turn away from it. We should seek to put God first in our praise to Him, in our worship of Him, to put our total trust in Him and to rely on Him rather than ourselves or others. We need to seek Him first in our reassurance and acknowledging who He is and what He can do. We also need to seek God's righteousness by loving our neighbors and feeding the poor and destitute, seek justice for the vulnerable. We should put God's plan and
