'Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away'
(Matthew 5:42).
Christ is the Master Teacher of all times. He taught his disciples and demonstrated how they should treat each other; even those on the lowest rungs of society, whether Jews or Gentiles. In this part of the Sermon on the Mount, He was imploring them to give to the poor, or beggars who ask and those who amongst them who are in great need and desire to borrow, that they turn not away from them. Jesus is also speaking to us, that there are people who has legitimate needs and when they ask for our help we should not turn them away, if we are able to help. If we desire to be like Jesus, it means we should listen and obey him and emulate how he lived while on this earth. Jesus attended the needs of the poor and indigenous around him and we should do likewise. Those that are rich, or in a very good position, it is God who has given you money for the poor, as his steward. It means that He, the One who has provided for you, need you to do the same for others who are in need. Jesus is saying, choosing to give is a powerful act of kindness, because you have chosen to do so. When you have chosen to freely give to others who has legitimate needs, God will indeed bless you even more. When we choose to give with the right motives, it comes back to us in ways we didn't imagine. How wonderful and gracious is our God! We do not give to receive, but we choose to do so because it's the right thing to do; what God requires of us. It is always good to be in the habit of giving. We see here, that giving and lending are two charities which Christ joined together for the working of his cause. It is important when helping our fellow men who are in need to recognise this. Let us show compassion when we can do more. If you can't or will not help a poor person, do so in kindness, never speaking an ill word or giving a pitiful or ill look. Jesus would not appreciate that! Let us trust God and be confident in Him that He will make a way.
Have a wonderful day 🌹🌹
Devotional 'The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed' (Psalm 28:8). The Lord our God is the glory of our strength, and in His name we shall rejoice all the day. The Lord is our strength, and the saving strength of His anointed. It is through Christ our anointed that all our blessings come to us. Here we see David, who is a type of our Lord Jesus, praising God. What about you? Christ had done much for us and has achieved full salvation for us, therefore, praise Him! We, like Israel are encouraged that the Lord is our Strength and salvation. When we seek to be in a relationship with God, He will protect us from our enemies and save us from the crutches of Satan. Just as how Satan attempts to destroy Christ many times, whilst he was on earth, God saved him and will do the same for us. Christ died to save us all, but it is those who trust Him and have a saving relationship with him that will spend eternity with. He is our High Priest, and J...
